The Skye Trail

I did the Skye Trail at the beginning of May 2023.  It was cold at the end of April and temperatures on Skye were dipping to -5oC overnight and I nearly cancelled the trip but all of sudden they improved  and I decided to go for it and I think it is the perfect time.  There were no midges!!!  I drove to Portree campsite which is located at the middle of the trail and the terrific campsite allowed me to leave my car there whilst I walked the trail with Diego, my Hungarian Vizsla.  There is a reliable bus service from Portree to Broadford so it is easy to get to the trail head.  We wild camped day 1 and 2 and it was great to get back to the van at the end of day 3 to resupply.  The weather was bad on day 4 so I took a day off as I saw no point in continuing when I couldn't even see the mountains.  Day 5 & 6 there were no reliable resupply points or shops.  This was my first visit to Skye and there is so much more to do there.  Looking forward to getting back there!

Day 1 Duntulm to Flodigarry 11.5kms, 289m ascent

Day 2 Flodigarry to The Storr 28.5kms, 1750m ascent

Day 3 The Storr to Portree 14kms, 509m ascent

Day 4 Portree to Sligachan via the Braes 19kms, 273m ascent

Day 5 Sligachan to Elgol 18kms, 510m ascent

Day 6 Elgol to Torrin 16.5kms, 368m ascent

Day 7 Torrin to Broadford 20kms, 482m ascent
